The inside of the Centre is designed as a blend of modern and functional style that has details associated with a traditional environment. The new facility is designed as a gallery with a spiral staircase, whose ground floor is located underground. Within it there is the library with a glass roof, three work rooms and a conference room. We paid special attention to the roof of the Synagogue, which is a combination of traditional roof and glass semi-dome.
The entire project was developed on the basis of sketches and resources that we received from the client. The final product is fully in line with the preliminary sketch. Based on the initial findings, hypothetical ideas and spatial determinants, we made a realistic and feasible architectural view of a Youth Centre in Zenica.
The synagogue, the park and a new building of the Centre are the key components of this part of the project.
On the facade of the Synagogue you can notice the elements of pseudo – Moorish style in which the building was built. Plenty of relief details that are on it are accurately carried over into the project, and they emphasise the stars with five or six branches, and plant designs. Symbol of the Synagogue, the holy book of the Torah, is located in the centre of the wreath on the front of the building. The doors are decorated with relief carvings and made of wood, and the windows are recessed with characteristic arches.
The park is treated as a flat surface to which we added underground garage exits, ramps, green spaces, trails and an amphitheatre.
The new facility has a waveform that “grows” out of the ground. It is made of glass, part of it is covered with vegetation, and part of it is under water and connected with the synagogue.
The most important thing about materials in this project was to keep the authentic appearance of existing building and its environment. We combined the old look with modern materials and we changed and improved the park and esplanade. We made an authentic stone path, lots of flowers and grass, so the meadow and the park look real and exactly like the client wanted.
